EME is the alias of Emeraude Kabeya, born in Kinshasa, Congo. As a toddler she moved to Leefdaal, Belgium.
During high school, Emeraude began experimenting with coverbands and participated in some hip-hop projects. She also was the MC of Reggae Soundsystem. Music remained an open-ended hobby until 2014. That year she was asked to sing in an All Star blues project hosted by Leuven-based free radio Radio Scorpio. That is where she instantly connected with the musicians that later became her band. The themes of her songs range from Emeraude's Congolese roots to her life, loss and love. Her lyricism combined with her amazing soul voice, which sounds both tender and powerful, hit the 6 others musicians to the core and the band around EME was born.
EME brings "Soul 'n' B": a blend of soul and R&B with a funky flavour and a hint of rock. Live, the band takes on the task of making people dance, from headbanging to grinding.
In 2015 EME won Rockvonk's public choice award and in the same year they made it to the shortlist of Studio Brussel's 'De Nieuwe Lichting'. The last one described her sound as catchy, funky and sensual.
Meanwhile, EME made a few more heads turn: the band opened Afropunk Festival in Paris in 2017, was part of Het Groot Verlof in Leuven and headlined many local Leuven festivals.
EME is rising steadily and stealing hearts one by one while working on the heavliy anticipated first album.
